A crucial archaeological place full with evidence of the name MACEDONIA existing more than 2000 years in central Macedonia. Roman Empire didn’t invent Macedonia, it was existing a 1000 years before, far before them too.
Architrave from the site Isar Marvinci, Valandovo, 181/2 AD
This stone has been discovered in situ as part of the temple of Heracles in the ancient city of Dober, archaeological site Isar Marvinci
The inscription mentions ΜΑΚΕΔΟΝΙΑ ΑΡΧΩΝΤΟ (Macedonian rulers) members of the Macedonian Coinon, a state body responsible for regulating the internal affairs of the roman province of Macedonia.
This stone is especially significant for us Macedonians because the name Macedonia survived as a name of the Republic of Macedonia in the year 181/2 AD, in the Roman period.
Therefore this architrave before being placed in the lobby of our museum, was placed in front of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, so all the important people that will come to visit the government to know that Macedonia was called Macedonia even in the 2nd century AD, in the roman period.
